The first Audio Video Beef post was this little snippet on March 2nd, 2004. Since then, I've posted a lot of music, a little video and a small amount of weird audio clips and speech. I'd like to think that I've stayed true to the original concept of Nuclear Beef, which Cyan and I came up with while watching this episode of Frontline/World a few years ago. We were so taken by the following exchange that we registered the domain and planned to make a site where we posted wacky media files.

BEN ANDERSON: Everywhere you go in North Korea, you see evidence of a country constantly prepared for war. One in ten North Koreans wears military uniform, and you often see army trucks carrying soldiers and weapons.

WILL DAWS: What was in there?

Mr. PAK: Beef.

BEN ANDERSON: [on camera] Lots of boxes of shells and machine guns.

Mr. PAK: Beef.

BEN ANDERSON: Are you afraid the beef will go off?

WILL DAWS: That was a lorry full of beef.

Mr. PAK: Right. Beef. Yeah.

BEN ANDERSON: Beef.

Mr. PAK: Yeah. Right.

BEN ANDERSON: Beef can mean trouble. Like if I have beef with you, it means I have a problem with you.

WILL DAWS: America has a beef with North Korea, you could say.

Mr. PAK: Lots of, I think, the nuclear beef they have. [laughter]

So there it is, the top secret origin of Nuclear Beef and its tagline. I would have posted this video snippet, but the Tivo it was on left my home and it's only available from PBS on VHS (ew) for.. $60.

A few months after I got the site up and running, Ready Rock Moe Rex suggested that I start music blogging, and here we are, 100 posts of Fresh Beef later.

Today's mp3s are dedicated to you, the loyal Beef reader. It's like it was meant to be. We hope we've entertained and amused you over these last 100 posts, and that we'll continue to in the future. If not, I guess that's too bad for you because you ain't paying for it anyway.
