Turn This Murder Into Blog

Audio Beef today.

I'm feeling a particular way. Without going into it, it's the opposite of happy. The above picture captures it pretty well.. as does this song, by the Police.

'Murder By Numbers' by The Police from their 1983 album Synchronicity

I don't have much else to say. Hello, REDACTED, if you're out there.

Choice Beef Quote:
Once that you've decided on a killing /
First you make a stone of your heart /
And if you find that your hands are still willing /
Then you can turn a murder into art.

got a taste for blood now, then? enjoying not being the clown this time around?
flush with your very first success?

congratulations on your new style.

God, no. I'm the clown. Notice that the clown realizes the gravity of his situation. No self-satisfied clown smirk except the one that's painted on. He knows he's guilty. It's all big shoes and fun and games until reality sets in.

Perhaps I have a different take on where The Police were going with this song?

I read the lyrics as an exposure of the gravity of losing people, or giving them up. The message I took home is about how carelessness can lead to badness. I feel like a murderer.. IE, I am identifying with the shame in this song, not the joy. The murder isn't art, but the suffering feels like it. I'm assaulted by memory, in full recognition of what I've risked. You know I like The Smiths, right?

"
Now if you have a taste for this experience /
And you're flushed with your very first success /
Then you must try a twosome or a threesome /
And you'll find your conscience bothers you much less /
"

The very point is that "conscience" bothers me. *IF* someone has a taste for the experience, they should repeat it to make it easier. I *don't* have a taste for the experience. The suffering demands that I try to not repeat it. It's not "as easy to learn as your ABC." Even if one is well intentioned, it's still too easy to hurt others if not careful. I see this song as a warning that it's easy to become a "murderer." A reminder to take greater care for others, and ones own soul. To avoid repeating mistakes.

Hooray for speaking in oblique cipher. Also for trying to make it better and making it worse!

PS - Do you really think I'm the sort of person who would consider this song in a celebratory fashion? Gak! :(
